Burn Day Information: The daily burn status is posted each morning. Call 541-776-7007 for the recorded message to confirm if it is a burn day.

Residential Burning Guidelines:

  1. Register for a Burn Permit by clicking the link further down this page.
  2. Inside the AQMA: Residential burning is prohibited November 1 through February 28 and at all times during fire season. Open burning is only permitted on declared burn days and with a valid burn permit.
  3. Outside the AQMA: Open burning is only permitted on declared burn days and with a valid burn permit. Open burning is prohibited at all times during fire season.
  • If necessary, search your address to determine your location with the AQMA and Fire District 3. The AQMA is designated by diagonal lines on the map. The colored areas of the map are the areas of coverage of Fire District 3.

  • Burning of the following items is prohibited:
    Household garbage, plastic, wire insulation, automobile parts, asphalt, petroleum products or treated materials, rubber, asbestos, animal remains, animal or vegetable matter resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking or service of food, any material which emits dense smoke or noxious odor.

Enter your information and submit. You can print a copy for yourself or save a digital copy. Burn permits are valid from the end of Fire Season to the beginning of the next Fire Season.

Special Burn Permits: Are designed to address larger pile sizes, individual needs and other potential concerns or special projects. Contact our Fire & Life Safety Division at (541) 826-7100 to request a Special Burn Permit.

What should I do if my neighbor is burning and it is not an authorized burn day?

  1. Residents may call 9-1-1 to report any illegal burns during Fire Season or an escaped burn at any time.

  2. Outside of Fire Season, contact DEQ to file a complaint at (888) 997-7888 or submit an online complaint form.
